Dawson played his university soccer at Purdue University and was drafted #5 by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 1957 NFL Draft. He performed for the Steelers from 1957 to 1959 and for the Cleveland Browns from 1960 to 1961. Dawson finished his profession with the Dallas Texans/Kansas Town Chiefs from 1962 to 1975. He earned Super Bowl IV and was called the Super Bowl IV MVP. Dawson was a six period AFL All-Celebrity and was chosen to the Pro Bowl in 1971. He was a two period AP First Group All-AFL selection and a two period AP Second-Group All-AFL selection. Dawson was called the SN AFL MVP in 1962 and was also a three period AFL champion. He was called the NFL Man of the entire year in 1973 and was inducted in to the Pro Soccer Hall of Fame in 1987. Dawson keeps the NFL/AFL record for some seasons leading the little league in completion percentage at eight.
